Sustainable management means for us networking economy, ecology, based on social engagement. Being a cooperative we are committed per se to economic sustainability. Not the short-term profit maximisation is paramount at ZENTRAG, but the inter-generational responsibility for the common goal.

Environmental sustainability is a structural cornerstone of cooperatives and butcher trades. Local and regional products have always been a core competence of our offer. Additionally organic products as for example the Gilde Organic-Poultry round off our range.

PROJECT

ZENTRAG site is climate neutral

We are pleased to report that we are climate neutral for 2021 with a site balance according to Scope 1, 2 and 3. This also applies to our GFL Gilde Frischelogistik GmbH warehouse site in Groß-Gerau.

For us, too, the journey is the destination. Therefore, the first step in 2020 was to record our ZENTRAG CO₂ balance sheet at the company’s Frankfurt site and that of our Gilde Frischelogistik warehouse in Groß-Gerau. From this, measures to reduce the real factors of our CO₂ footprint (according to Scope 1, direct emissions from the combustion of fossil fuels and Scope 2, indirect emissions resulting from electricity consumption) and projects for implementation were initiated. After we were able to add Scope 3 to our two ZENTRAG and GFL locations in 2021 with an expanded corporate carbon footprint, we are officially allowed to call ourselves climate neutral within these named system boundaries after balancing our current CO₂ footprint according to the contract approach in cooperation with myclimate Germany, an international climate protection organisation and non-profit GmbH.

But that is not all. We have further goals that we want to achieve beyond that by 2025. Accompany ZENTRAG on the path to carbon neutrality.

ADVISORY SKILLS

Qualification for more sustainability

Our colleague Frank Peschtrich has qualified as a climate professional in the SME Climate Network! We are pleased to have even more expertise in-house through this qualification measure, also for the benefit of our cooperative members!

ZENTRAG Facility Manager Frank Peschtrich has been working in the offices in Frankfurt and at the warehouse of Gilde Frische Logistik in Groß-Gerau on the transformation towards sustainability and energy efficiency since before yesterday. For example, in the conversion to LED lighting, support for the measures at the GFL warehouse location and currently in the implementation of a photovoltaic system. The completed qualification as a climate professional not only expands their expertise, but also integrates the climate professionals into the existing network of the Mittelstandsverbund climate network project.

The climate professionals mostly come from the own ranks of the association groups and have different professional backgrounds. In order to make them fit for the interdisciplinary questions of the consultations, the second generation of climate professionals has now been trained on behalf of ServiCon Service & Consult eG according to the curriculum of the Mittelstandsverbund. The qualification programme is about the broad-based expertise of climate professionals, whether in energy efficiency, mobility, logistics, process flows, resource or waste management. The aim is not only to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but also to identify potential savings and thus give companies a boost in business terms. At the same time, employees are to be sensitised and informed about technological innovations and access to funding programmes for investments in climate protection. This is what the Klimaverbund Mittelstand attests to its climate professionals. From now on, ZENTRAG will be able to meet the challenges in the field of “sustainability changes” in an even broader way. We congratulate Frank Peschtrich and look forward to many more steps on our way to more sustainability in our joint business activities.

PROJECT

Climate Pro for SMEs

The pilot project „Climate Pro for SMEs“ is a project initiated by the Mittelstandsverbund association in 2016. In cooperation with ZENTRAG, the Mittelstandsverbund offers free climate protection counselling in order to help butchers with their energy optimisation efforts in their respective shops.
